On the night between 5 and 6 February, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Türkiye and Syria. The number of victims is growing hour after hour, while snow, rain, and cold make it extremely difficult to aid the affected populations.

For those living in Syria, this catastrophe adds to the humanitarian crisis caused by the civil war that has been going on for almost 12 years. In Aleppo, where one of the longest and toughest battles of the entire conflict took place, the situation was already critical before the earthquake. The city, largely destroyed in the four years of clashes between government forces and rebels, had thousands of dilapidated and precarious buildings and a disastrous situation for healthcare. Today, while the international community is spending great effort and resources to bring aid to Türkiye, those who live in Syria risk being cut off from assistance.

Armadilla has been working in Syria for almost 20 years. With our local partners in cities such as Damascus, Aleppo, and Latakia, Armadilla carries out protection programs for people with disabilities, women, and minors to guarantee their dignity and independence.

In these hours, we have begun to help thousands of people who have lost their homes and loved ones with our partners in Aleppo and Latakia by providing them with clothes, blankets, and psychological support.

Here’s how you can contribute to helping those affected by the earthquake in Syria.
